One of the comments Sarah (Kitty’s Purrfect Spa’s Office Manager) and I hear often is our prices are too expensive.

I would like to take a moment to explain why our prices are so much more than the prices you would find at a grooming salon.

To start with, I had my hair done today. Nothing too fancy, and $120 later… Last week I had my carpets cleaned, they would not come to my house if I could not guarantee at least $200 of work…Even though I have a very small yard with no grass, my gardeners minimum is $100 a month.

Life is expensive. Gas is expensive. Insurance is expensive. Any reputable business has got to price their services high enough to cover the expense it takes to operate a legal business in the state of California.

Besides the fact that as a business we have to cover our basic expenses, there are several other reasons for our price point being higher than a salon. First, we are an “in your home”, otherwise known as a house call business. Any time you have a service come into your home, you pay a premium. It is as simple as that. Consider the difference in price between a locksmith, car wash, mechanic or any other professional that travels to you versus one you drive to a shop to conduct business with. Anytime someone comes to you, you pay a premium price.

When I opened in June 2013, I CHOSE to be a house call business because I honestly believed (and still do) that it is the best way to serve the felines in Santa Clarita.

That said, working in the homes of my clients puts restrictions on Kitty’s Purrfect Spa that a salon based business does not have. Such things as only being able to service one feline at a time, having to bring all our equipment (60 pounds) into your home, setting up our equipment before each groom, cleaning up your home when we are finished grooming, driving to the next home and setting up all over again. These extra steps take the time that a salon based business would be using to groom another cat or two. Besides missing out on time to groom more cats, we are having extra physical demands placed on our bodies that salon groomers do not encounter. So yes, our prices are also higher because you are paying for the individualization of grooming one cat at a time, setting up and cleaning up the grooming environment.

Another reason our prices are higher than other establishments is that you are hiring a Certified Feline Master Groomer who has completed over 3,000 grooms, writes on the topic of cat grooming in publications that are distributed globally and teaches feline-exclusive grooming. So you are also paying for Deborah’s education, expertise, knowledge, and skill. This is especially important to your family if you have an elderly feline or a Kitty with medical issues.

As you can see, many things go into setting the prices at Kitty’s Purrfect Spa. Setting prices are never taken lightly and are always fair.

As of January 1, 2019, there will be a price increase in our services. These prices will be raised for everyone. The only exception is for the clients who are on prepayment or monthly payment programs that have not lapsed.
